I bought an iPhone 6S from my neighbor for $100. But it’s a Sprint phone, and I’m on AT&T. I suppose I have to unlock it and switch over my sim card. What’s the best way to go about that?

You shouldn’t have to unlock it. Put your sim card in, reboot it, then erase all content and settings if that hasn’t already been done.
I’m on AT&T but my phones are always Verizon phones because I get the hand me downs when our consultants want the latest and greatest phones.

He’s already set the phone back to “out of the box” mode (you turn it on and it says “HELLO”).

Cool then you should be able to put your sim in and set it up!

It should be factory unlocked. That said, sometimes carriers put network locks on phones that are financed then forget to turn them off once the phone is paid off. If that's the case you have to call the carrier that locked it and hope they'll unlock it.

Hmm. Okay, thanks. Is there a way to find out? Or do I just pop my sim card in and see what happens?

We had to do this when we gave my wife’s iPhone to someone. We had to go on the AT&T site and submit an unlock request. It took about 5 minutes.
We first tested by just putting the Verizon SIM card in. When that didn’t work, we did the unlock.

I’ve been doing some reading, and I found an ATT site where you enter the phone’s MEID number to check compatibility. The site said the it is compatible, so it looks like I’ll be good to go.

SIM card is the ultimate test! The phone will tell you if there’s a lock. :) If there isn’t a lock, the iPhone will simply “respring” (at least the newer ones do) and activate on the new SIM.
